Learn how the use of Hard’s self-tapping fastener contributed to Marko Sistemas Metálicos to achieve its FM Approved certification.?

Client:?

Logo da Marko Sistemas Metálicos

With more than 40 years of history, Marko Sistemas Metálicos stands out for being the exclusive manufacturer of the metallic Roll-on roofing system, holder of the rigorous FM approval Approved.. Specialist in coverings for large spans, the company’s headquarters is headquartered in Rio de Janeiro/RJ, but operates throughout the country.??

Problem:?

Desbobinamento no sistema Roll-on

As already mentioned, Marko is the exclusive manufacturer of the Roll-on system. The assembly of this type of metallic cover consists of coils with the full length of the building unrolled over the structure, forming continuous channels for conducting water to the periphery of the building.?Marko wanted to gain approval from FM Approvals for this system. But for that, I needed to find a screw for fixing the copper-joint to the structure that would contribute to supporting the expected wind load limits.?

The wind exerts pressures and suctions on the roofs, this can cause undesirable effects and even material damage. Therefore, it was essential that Marko find a solution to this problem, so that it could guarantee quality and durability, attributes already known to its products. In addition to that, as it is a system approved by FM Approvals, all items that make up this structure must have the same approval.??

To achieve this certification, the products must first be manufactured by a company approved by FM Approvals. Afterwards, the items are tested, a stage in which the item is checked against its design and/or specification, through to quality and installation controls. They also need to resist the most difficult meteorological phenomena, such as, for example, very strong winds.??

Therefore, the company’s objective was to find a fastener that would withstand the expected wind loads and that had the FM Approved certification, as this was essential  for Marko to achieve its own approval. In addition to that, the solution found would contribute with quality and durability to its watertight roofing system.?

Solution:?

Based on a technical consultancy, the use of a self-tapping fastener 1/4 14X3/4” point AB with Neobond washer ?with EPDM rubber from Hard was recommended. It does not need a nut, which contributes to a simpler installation, the thinner and cutting thread of this type of fastener “grabs” the hole more tightly. The result is a stronger application.??

This item also has the exclusive Ecoseal® coating?having the highest corrosion resistance in the category. Because, it is applied in six stages, which combined form a coating of 30?m (microns), which provides superior performance to different types of corrosion. It also resists 1,500 hours in the Salt-spray test (saline mist) and 30 cycles in the Kesternich test (acid rain).?

In addition to that, Hard fasteners have had the rigorous FM Approved certification since 2014, proving that the products meet the requirements of the world market. It means that these solutions undergo annual inspections, where the procedures for inspection of raw material receipt, manufacturing quality control, engineering documentation, measurement systems, procedures for traceability and treatment of anomalies are evaluated.??

Conclusion:?

Using the Hard solution, Marko managed to ensure that the fixing of the joint covers of its Roll-on system supported the required load limits. It occurs due to the type of fastener thread indicated, which results in a more resistant application. Once it is coated with Ecoseal®, the item resists better to corrosion. The seal is also greater due to the washer Neobond with EPDM rubber.?

The use of this solution also contributed to Marko achieving its FM Approved certification.?This approval is part of a project to enter the North American market, and this quality certificate is used when introducing the Roll-on system to new customers.?
